Herschell H. Plants, age, 78, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Saint Anthony Medical Center. Herschell is survived by 5 children: Donna Rick Hise, Howard Jeannie Plants, David Plants, Mary Strum and Mike Chris Plants Sr., 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brother; Gene Plants, sister; Shirley Kersey, special friend; Pat Klaas. He was preceded in death by his wife: Hazel, daughter: Lori Ann, and parents: Howard & Florence Hobart Mills Plants. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre, NOTE: NEW LOCATION-2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN. Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre. Herschell retired from U. S. Steel. He was a member of Southlake Agriculture Society for 25 years, Sons of American Legion Post #20 and the Moose Lodge of Crown Point. Mr. Plants was an avid fisherman and loved to assemble model airplanes and cars. He was a mechanic for over 50 years working at Purkeys, Wagners and at home. Herschell enjoyed being the boss. Memorials in Herschell?s name may be made to the American Heart Association. When I was growing up Herschell was my ?big guy? cousin. Along with Gene and Shirley I spent many fun hours?especially on Sunday afternoons. While you, his kids, were growing up we had very little contact, but in the last few years we have been able to get together about once a year and I cherish those memories. I cannot be there at this time, but I am praying for you all and hope that you can draw strength from the Lord just as I am. God bless you each one.
