Herman C. Westphal “Bud” Jr. age 91, of Michigan City, IN passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Rittenhouse in Michigan City. He was born May 26, 1929 in Michigan City, IN to Herman C. and Lillian (Voltz) Westphal who preceded him in death.
Bud is survived by his sons: Steven S. (Rebecca) Westphal of Chicago, IL, David S. (Pamela) Westphal of Michigan City, IN and Michael S. (Cathy) Westphal also of Michigan City; grandchildren: Matthew Westphal, Michael (Samantha) Westphal, Lauren (Ryan) Westphal- Barden, Robert (Breia) Westphal; great-grandchildren: Amelia, Isabelle, Everly and Brayden; and a very special friend. Bud was preceded in death by his wife: Beverly C. Westphal on October 7, 2014; sisters: Lillian Bower, Ruth Tietzer, Josephine Wentland and brother, Kenneth F. Westphal.
Bud proudly served his country in the US Naval Reserve. He was retired from Bethlehem Steel with 32 years of service. Bud was an accomplished musician, having played for over 75 years. He played with the Michigan City Municipal Band for 40 years, as well as many well- known orchestras and the U. S. Navy Band. Bud was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Elks, Moose, attended Michigan City Christian Church and served as Captain of the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Dept.
In respecting Herman’s wishes, private Memorial Graveside services will be held with immediate family. Geisen-Carlisle Funeral & Cremation Services 613 Washington St. Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
