Helen Stolzmann

Helen Stolzmann nee Mayerik age 95 of Crown Point and Merrillville, IN passed away at home on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Helen was born on January 7, 1913 in Gary, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Ewald Walt Stolzmann; parents, Michael and Eva Zatko Mayerik; sister; Martha Dian, brothers, John and Michael Mayerik and nephew Julius Michael Dian. She is survived by her daughter, Ardyne Kirn of Crown Point, adored granddaughters and “grandsons” Kimberly and Jeffrey Coto of Valparaiso and Kristen and Shawn Wagoner of Hebron; Great Grandma to Robyn and Hollie Coto and Guh Guh to Ellena and Gabrielle Wagoner; Godmother to nephew John M. Mayerik, Jr. Loving aunt to three generations of nieces and nephews. Helen and Walt were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1939. She was devoted to her family, her Christian faith and her church, and sharing her Slovak heritage. Helen was a former member of Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church Gary and a founding member of Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran Church Crown Point where she served on the Chancel Circle, CROSS Society, and LWML. Helen was a graduate of Froebel High School Class of 1931. She was Treasurer of Faternal Lodge # 115W of SOKOL-USA for over 50 years; a member of the Board of Directors of District Ludovict Stur Sokol-USA, served as a National Board Member / Finance Committee of SOKOL-USA, and past SOKOL gymnastics instructor. Helen worked in retail and later as a bookkeeper for 25 years, and prepared taxes for family and friends in her home. She was a member of the Methodist Hospital Auxiliary and SOAR. An Avid reader, Helen was skilled at baking, sewing, knitting and crochet and shared her gifts with many Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church 8061 E. US RT 30 and Randolph Crown Point, IN with Rev. Dr. Carl H. Krueger Jr. officiating. Dear Ardyne and Family, Victor and I wish to extend our sincere condolences because of the death of your dear mother. I always like to recall better times, when your family and the Mayeriks' lived in the apartment building near the Slovak Club. My father, Jim and I were relatively new to the family, but all of you welcomed us with open arms. Your mother will always be recalled because of her kindness and as a young girl I always knew, she was very special and very intelligent, because she knew how to figure out taxes. Will never forget the first time Aunt Helen convinced my mom that I would enjoy SOKOL camp. I went for a week and didn't have a clue what I was doing. Guess I wasn't the outdoor type and definitely not very athletic. We were all much younger then and I do look back on those days with a lot of love. Sorry, but will not be able to attend the services for your dear mother. Vic and I have not been feeling well for a couple of months. Told Dan on the phone, that what illnesses we were able to fight out in l0 to 14 days, now takes two months to heal. Much love to all of you. Chris and Vic Caplinger
