Helen Razus

HELEN RAZUS (nee Janicki) age 90 passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday May 30 2010 at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was born in McKees Rock PA on June 26 1919 to Theodore and Tekla (nee Shyan) Janicki. She grew up in Gary IN attended Horace Mann High School and was employed at Arthur Weiner Pants Factory. She is survived by three children: Gerald (Margaret) Razus of North Judson Nancy (Robert) Tittle of Valparaiso and Barbara (Peter) Svetcoff of Valparaiso eight grandchildren: Christal Yvonne Dina Michael Amy Stephanie Julie and David seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Walter Razus along with her two sisters Blanche Koval and Mary Godra and brother Walter Janick. Helen was employed by the City of Gary as a school guard on 46th and Harrison for 18 years during which time she greatly enjoyed the relationship she had with the children. In addition she was a member at St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church Merrillville and volunteered at their Friday Fish Fry for over 30 years. She was a member of the Van Buren Street Ladys Bunco Club of Glen Park and MOMs Bunco in Shorewood Forest. Helen was most recently a resident of Pines Retirement Village where she received excellent care and made many friends. Family and Friends may call Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway Merrillville) on Tuesday June 1 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M with a prayer service at 4:30 P.M. and a rosary at 5:00 P.M. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday June 2 2010 at 9:30 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 10:00 A.M. from St. Michaels Byzantine Catholic Church (557 West 57th Avenue Merrillville) with Rev. Michael Evanick officiating. At rest Calumet Park Cemetery Merrillville. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice Center or Pines Retirement Village of Valparaiso.
