Guenther M. “Bud” Philipp Jr., passed away on July 12, 2021. He was born on April 15, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Guenther M. and Florence Philipp (Doyle) who preceded him in death. Guenther married his loving wife, Ruth Ann (Gundersen) Philipp in June of 1956 in Chicago, IL.
Bud is survived by Ruth Ann and his children, Jacqueline (Rodney) Barndollar, Michael (Dina) Philipp and Daniel (Alicia) Philipp; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Lawrence), Joseph, Benjamin (Roshi), Rebecca (Justin), Megan, Hannah, Mitchell, and Norah.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elizabeth Philipp; and brother, John Philipp.
Bud grew up in Chicago, and after attending St. Mary of the Lake seminary in Mundelein, Illinois, Bud went on to graduate cum laude from Loyola University School of Law where he was member of the Law Review. Bud retired from the Schiff Hardin Law firm after over 50 years of practice with the firm.
Bud was a fixture at the Union League Club of Chicago where he enjoyed the handball competition and the camaraderie for decades. He loved flying his Bonanza around the country and the Bahamas, was an avid sailor and was particularly well known in Siesta Key in Sarasota, Florida and Michigan City, Indiana for playing taps at sunset for the appreciative fellow beach lovers. He was a lifelong learner and always interested in educating himself on the topic of the day.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am with Father Jon Plavcan officiating at St. Ann of the Dunes, 433 East Golfwood Road, Beverly Shores, IN 46301.
