Gregory G. Swantko

September 3, 1941 - October 2, 2009

Gregory “Greg” Swantko, age 68 of Crown Point, IN passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009. He was born on September 3, 1941 in East Chicago, Indiana to Albin and Margaret Gyemont Swantko. Greg graduated from Hammond High School with the class of 1959 and attended Purdue University Calumet. He spent his entire professional career working for Inland Steel where he retired after 36 years of service. Greg is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Wanda Evans; children Jeannine David Larimer of Chesterton, IN; Jennifer David Woods of Bloomington, IN; and Craig Julie Swantko of Crown Point, IN; grandchildren Sam, Meghan, Joe, Ben, Mia, Madeline and Max; brother Fred Theresa Swantko of Hobart and sister Marcia Ron Casassa of Valparaiso; and his faithful cocker spaniel companion Crash. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Sakal of Schererville. Greg participated on the Crown Point 4th of July Committee as well as the Crown Point chapter of the Jaycees, a local philanthropic organization. He enjoyed traveling, photography, bowling, auto racing, rooting for the Cubs and most especially, spending time with his family. Greg touched the lives of all that he met and was a kind friend to many. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION- 2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN, with Fr. Pat Kalich officiating. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633. Dear Wanda, Jeannine, Jen and Craig - I am sorry for your grief, and wish I could be there to hug each of you.
