Glenn A. Woodruff, age 87, of Trail Creek, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at the Arbors of Michigan City. Funeral services will be Friday, February 5 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor John D. Hall Officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, February 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, and Friday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the Church. Burial will be in Door Village Cemetery Friday at 3:00 p.m. He was born April 24, 1922 in Rolling Prairie to William J. and Emma F. (Greene) Woodruff, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 7, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX , he married Vera J. Hedstrom, she survives in Trail Creek. Also surviving are his children Judy (Patrick) Hulen of Vincennes, IN, Gary (Ruth Ann) Woodruff, Olympia, WA, David (Diane) Woodruff, Trail Creek, and Janet (Jeffrey) Dektor of Asheville, NC, grandchildren Joshua and Justin Woodruff, Ruth Gaylen (B.J.) Ungren, Sarah (Ken) Symons, Bethany (Troy) Johnson, Kristin Woodruff, Nathan (Sarah) Dektor, Christine (Doug Messenger) Dektor, Shandor Dektor, Mandi (Kemble) Johnson, Patrick Hulen II and Elizabeth Hulen, 4 great-grandchildren, James and David Lee Symons and Heath Johnson and Eli Johnson, sisters Mary Jane Steinhagen of LaPorte, Barbara (Jim) Daly of Mill Creek, brothers Roy (Delores) Woodruff, Bradenton Beach, FL, William (Karin) Woodruff, Trail Creek, Fred (Janet) Woodruff of Michigan City and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Murray and Viola Smith, and brothers Lawrence, Louis, John and Frank Woodruff. Glenn was the owner/operator of Glenn Woodruff’s Garden Center from the early 1970’s until 2006. He was the co-founder of LaPorte County Landscaping. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He enjoyed playing golf and bowling when he wasn’t at the garden center. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He and his wife were avid travelers. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
