Mr. Eugene Ernest Phebus, 72 , of Las Vegas, NV and formerly of Chicago, IL died Thursday, April 7, 2009 at University of Chicago Hospital.
The funeral service will be Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. at Carlisle Funeral Home where friends may call from 2 P.M. until the service.
He was born July 29, 1936 in Kalamazoo, MI to Charles Ernest and Mary (Swartzentruber) Phebus. His mother survives in Chicago. In 1957 he married Patricia Virginia Galloway ; she preceded him in 1992. Other survivors include a son Gene Phebus of Reno, NV, daughters Elizabeth (Richard) East of LaPorte, Eileen (Mike) Anderson of Indianapolis and Elaine (Shawn) LaJouness of Tennessee, grandchildren Christopher (Jamie), John Paul, Mathew and Kyle, great grandson Logan, siblings Emma, Charles, Tom, Leona and Mary Lou and a special friend Barbara Dargitz. His father and a brother John also preceded him.
Eugene was an entrepreneur as a chemist and geophysicist of his own mines of precious metals and oil; he has been known for his famous cooking; he had a great love of motor sports and refurbishing military vehicles with his son. He was a high standing member of Teamsters Local 631 in Nevada. His warm and accepting personality made it easy for him to never know a stranger; he touched many lives.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
