Ethel M. Eikelberg, age 86, of Michigan City, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:15 p.m. at the Arbors of Michigan City. Services will be held Wednesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Rev. John D. Hall officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. Ethel was born March 18, 1922 in Michigan City to Frank and Florence (Walters) Grant, both of whom preceded her in death. On February 11, 1943 in Michigan City, she married Everett Eikelberg; he passed away Oct. 26 1989.
Surviving are one sister, Norma (Edwin C.) Linsemeyer, Michigan City, nieces Susan (Steven) Googash of Miamisburg, OH; Gail (Douglas) Franckowski of Columbia, MO, nephew Larry (Mary) Linsemeyer of Michigan City, great nieces and nephews Kirsten Anderson, Drew Anderson, Jennifer Thoresen, David and Amy Linsemeyer. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Grant, and mother and father-in-law Rhinehart and Isabelle Eikelberg.
Mrs. Eikelberg had been a homemaker and had also worked at Arno Tape for 9 years. Ethel was a lifelong resident of Michigan City. She enjoyed homemaker, sewing and cooking. For many years, Ethel and Everett were active organizers in the Michigan City Elks Club and spent many happy hours dancing. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the American Legion John Franklin Miller Post #37 Women’s Auxiliary, and a life member of the Vivians of Elks B.P.O.E. #432.
