Ethel Gayle Guernsey

ETHEL GAYLE GUERNSEY (nee Hittle) age 74 of Portage passed away Thursday March 31 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 5 1936 in Cedar Creek Twp. IN to Robert Philip and Edna Iola Stephenson Hittle. She married Marvin Eugene Guernsey on December 28 1965 in the LDS Logan Utah Temple. Ethel is survived by her husband of 45 years Marvin two daughters: Ramona (Terry) Swapp of UT Jennifer (Christopher) Archer of Portage son Robert (Kathleen) Guernsey of UT 11 grandchildren: Brooke Makenna Renee and Troy Swapp Conner Jadyn and Logan Archer Kesiah (Blake) Reyns Jordan Mailee and Kennedy Guernsey brother David Hittle of UT. Preceded in death by parents two brothers Philip and Paul Hittle. Ethel served faithfully in many ways in her church the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Valparaiso Ward. Ethel taught English and Latin before having a family. After her children were raised she went back to work at the Hobart Adult Learning Center and later in Portage. She enjoyed helping students to receive their GED and to improve their English. Ethel enjoyed crossword puzzles her flowers learning about her family history and was a member of the Pontius Family Association. Ethel enjoyed spending time with family especially her grandchildren. She is loved by many and will be greatly missed. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service 2700 Willowcreek Rd. Portage on Wednesday April 6 2011 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday April 7 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 503 Burlington Beach Road Valparaiso with President Michael C. Beeler officiating.
