Emmanuel K. Tsaparikos, age 80 years old, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2009 in Hobart, IN. He was born on November 27, 1929 in Samos, Greece to the parents of Konstantinos and Theodosia Tsaparikos. Emmanuel took ownership of the Stepping Stone Restaurant in 1981. He was a hard worker but will primarily be remembered for the love and devotion he shared for his family. They knew him as a man of few words but many stories. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Emmanuel is survived by his loving wife, Mary, two sons; Kostas of San Diego and Chris Heather, a daughter, Sula Frank Bean of Union Township, IN, two brothers; Mario Joan Rekos of South Bend and Georgios Tsaparikos of Greece, sister, Maria Manolis Isidorou of Merrillville, IN, nine grandchildren; Mike Elena Moraitis, James and Steven Sarkkinen, Jason Bean, Mary Paul Ballas, Manolis Tsaparikos, Emmanuel, Alex and Zoe Tsaparikos, and a great-granddaughter, Kayla. Preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM DIRECTLY at St. Iakovos Greek Orthodox Church, 352 Chicago St., Valparaiso Corner of Chicago & Campbell Sts. with Rev. James Greanias officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved brother, Stelios at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may call at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN on Monday, November 30, 2009 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM Trisagion Prayer Service on Monday at 7:00 PM. Sula, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of your father passing. I fondly remember the times your dad made greek pizza for me when I visited your house. He was always quick to ask me what I wanted to eat. He was so warm and caring. This made such an impression on me because I never knew anyone from another country. We were only eleven or 12 when we first met. Your father was always so kind to me and those memories at Stepping Stone will never be forgotten. Your family will be in my prayers. God Bless You!
