Elsie Mae Skivers

August 17, 1921 - August 28, 2009

Elsie Mae Skivers, age 88, of New Buffalo, died Friday August 28, 2007 at her caregivers residence in LaPorte. Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with her Pastor Jack Andrews officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. She was born August 18, 1921 in Geary, OK to William and Della (Moore) Isenbletter. On August 7, 1937, she was united in married to Fred Skivers who preceded her in death November 2, 2004. . Survivng is her son Larry (Carole) Skivers of Madison, WI, daughter Joyce Emerick of Trail Creek, son Freddie (Emiko) Skivers and daughter Jeanette (Gene) Hutson, both of Las Vegas, and son John (Kathe) Skivers of Trenton, IL, brother Leonard (Joan) Isenblatter of Michigan City, sister Betty Smith of Joliet, IL; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Lloyd, Virgil (Luella), Raymond and Robert; a sister Frieda (Edward) Matz, a son-in-law Robert “Bob” Emerick, and a great granddaughter Jennifer Hazlett. Mrs. Skivers was a charter member of Lakeland Free Methodist Church where she taught adult classes for years, and introduced many of her grandchildren to the Lord. She has been a long time member of the Free Methodist Church of Michigan City. Mr. and Mrs. Skivers were the owners/operators of Karwick Road Food Mart from 1947 to 1969. For 20 years she worked at Sprague Devices. She was active in home economics and the Girl Scouts. Anyone who met her knew that she was a very special person. The family wants to extend a special thank-you for all the loving care from the Garrett family and staff these last few months. Memorial contributions may be made to Free Methodist Church.

She was my Great Grandmother, the foundation of my entire family, and the right example of a family life and marriage. She was couragous, loving, giving, and most of all caring. I will miss you Grandma, you were a superwoman in my eyes. I love you.

Dearest Family, My heart was with you as you celebrated the life of Aunt Elsie. I prayed for each of you in your time of grief. I have many memories of her and the family. Family was everthing to her and she cherished each one of you. She is happy, I know to be with the Lord and to once again be with her beloved husband. My deepest sympathies go out to you all on the loss of your mom, (that was the hardest of all for me). I remember your mom as always smiling and happy and now she will always be so. We are saddened at loss of your dear mother. We think and speak of you all often. Wish we could all get together for a sit down and have a good cry and laugh about our parents and all their antics. We all know that all of the are up there having a blast!!!

I was good friend of Beth Skivers and always remember her going to visit grandparents in New Buffalo.
