Elsie Mae Skivers, age 88, of New Buffalo, died Friday August 28, 2007 at her caregivers residence in LaPorte. Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with her Pastor Jack Andrews officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. She was born August 18, 1921 in Geary, OK to William and Della (Moore) Isenbletter. On August 7, 1937, she was united in married to Fred Skivers who preceded her in death November 2, 2004. . Survivng is her son Larry (Carole) Skivers of Madison, WI, daughter Joyce Emerick of Trail Creek, son Freddie (Emiko) Skivers and daughter Jeanette (Gene) Hutson, both of Las Vegas, and son John (Kathe) Skivers of Trenton, IL, brother Leonard (Joan) Isenblatter of Michigan City, sister Betty Smith of Joliet, IL; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers Lloyd, Virgil (Luella), Raymond and Robert; a sister Frieda (Edward) Matz, a son-in-law Robert “Bob” Emerick, and a great granddaughter Jennifer Hazlett. Mrs. Skivers was a charter member of Lakeland Free Methodist Church where she taught adult classes for years, and introduced many of her grandchildren to the Lord. She has been a long time member of the Free Methodist Church of Michigan City. Mr. and Mrs. Skivers were the owners/operators of Karwick Road Food Mart from 1947 to 1969. For 20 years she worked at Sprague Devices. She was active in home economics and the Girl Scouts. Anyone who met her knew that she was a very special person. The family wants to extend a special thank-you for all the loving care from the Garrett family and staff these last few months. Memorial contributions may be made to Free Methodist Church.
