Our family has lost the kindest and most gentle man we knew with the passing of our uncle, Edward Nawojski. He was always there for us no matter what we asked of him. Uncle Ed was a deeply religious man which showed in everything he did. He was a true gentleman, and he taught us all by his silent example.
Once you met him he was your Uncle Eddie too, as all of our friends can attest to. He was from the “Greatest Generation” and was the “Greatest Uncle”. To say he will be missed is an understatement.
He was born on December 12, 1924 in Chicago, IL, then his family moved to Tolleston where he grew up. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church and Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Ed was a current member of Holy Martyrs/Our Lady of Consolation Churches and resided at Towne Centre in Merrillville.
He graduated from Tolleston High School in 1942, and was drafted into the Navy in 1943. Ed served his entire time at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX as an engineering draftsman.
After the Navy, he attended Indiana University at Bloomington, IN and graduated in 1950 with a degree in business.
Ed retired from the Budd Co. where he worked in the accounting department. He was a member of the Polish National Alliance Lodge 1640, the Polish Roman Catholic Union and the American Legion.
