In loving memory of Dorothy Louise (Leser) Meyer, Trail Creek, who slipped away peacefully to join Marcus, her husband and sweetheart of 68 years, in heaven, on February 25, 2010 at the Arbors of Michigan City. Dorothy was born June 9, 1923 in Valparaiso, IN to John and Zelda (Williamson) Leser. On June 15, 1941, Dorothy married Marcus, and over the next 68 years, Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in her home, which was built for her by Marcus. It was a well known fact that you could indeed eat off the kitchen floor and that she may have, on one occasion, wiped the shine off of one of her picture windows as it proceeded to crack once she was done washing the already clean window. She enjoyed baking cookies and making candy for the holidays with her “Markie”. The two would begin the process shortly after Thanksgiving and would continue until the Christmas holiday. She took great pride in assembling cookie trays and giving them to her eager family and friends. You could always count on her to help, listen, and to give advice. Most importantly, you could always count on her love. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Lutheran Church, and formerly in charge of the nursery there. She was past president of the American Legion John Franklin Miller Post 37 Woman’s Auxiliary. Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Diane (Thomas) Papineau and Sundra Bryner, 3 granddaughters, Tammy (Robb) Drake, Rhonda (Marc) Chavez and Colleen (Ken) Morlan, great-granddaughter Amanda Drake, great-grandsons Brandon Drake, Tyler and Dakota Morlan and Gavin Chavez, sister Evelyn Hutton, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Marcus, grandson Brian Meyer, great granddaughter Jocelyn Chavez, and sisters Lois Curtis and Betty Ann Leser. The service will be Tuesday, March 2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Lutheran Church with Pastor John L. Mikenas officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service Tuesday at the church. Entombment will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke United Lutheran Church. Our family would also like to take this time to thank special helpers Erin Miller, Michelle Jackson and Amy Hartsburg for providing care in the home over the past few weeks. Dorothy enjoyed each of you and the company and care you provided.
