Dorothy Helene Upchurch (nee Jackson), age 91, of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Leroy, IN passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Becky (Bob) Shamess, Gary (Miriam) Upchurch, David (Julie) Upchurch; daughters-in-law: Janice Upchurch and Dawn Killingsworth; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Margaret Petrie and Katheryn Witten.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Upchurch; parents: Gerald and Leona Jackson; and children: Jerry (Dawn) Killingsworth, Jeff Upchurch.

Dorothy was an elementary school teacher in the Crown Point School System for 23 years primarily at Timothy Ball Elementary School. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in St. John, IN, an Indiana University Alumni, and a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, golfing, and social outings with beloved friends known as the Gourmet Club. She was also an extensive world traveler and had been to 52 countries.

Dorothy will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, February 9, 2024 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral Service at 11:30 AM.
