She was born on February 23, 1928 to Anton and Mary Hjort and raised in Springfield, IL. She was married to William “Bill” M. Hebert for 66 years and together they raised 12 children: Daniel (Dannette) Hebert, Frederick (Donna) Hebert, Vicky (Jeff) Bernard, Mary Beabout, Bill (Pamela) Hebert, Janice (Samuel) Lozada, John (Diane) Hebert, Paul Hebert, Peter (Jennifer) Hebert, Andrew (Kara) Hebert, Dawn (Phil) Johnson, Diane (Joseph) Arias; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters: Rita (Don) Tucker, Patricia Kniepman; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Eloise, Leo, Marie, Teresa, Catherine, John, and Maurice; and three grandchildren: Michelle Hebert, Brent Hebert, and Ruby Beabout.
A faithful Christian woman, Dorothy’s greatest joy came from raising her twelve children and supporting her husband, and the Church. She was a dedicated parishioner at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Past-President of the Rosary Sodality, had an extreme passion for gardening as she earned a Master Gardener certification, was an active member of the Lake Station Historical Society, belonged to the International Toastmistress Club, and so much more too numerous to list. Her wit and gifts of coversation and hospitality brought joy to the lives of so many. She loved sharing with others her faith, family, and love of nature.
