Doris Marie Wendt, 84, died peacefully Friday (Nov. 27, 2009) at her residence in Seattle, WA. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include Harold and Marie Wendt, Silver Spring, MD; son Randy Wendt, Omaha, daughter Carol Guy, Seattle; and four grandchildren, Amberly Wendt, Nicole Guy, Michelle Guy, and Stephanie Guy. She was preceded in death by son Larry Wendt and her husband Albert “Red” Wendt. Siblings preceded in death include: sister Alice Vann (Green Bay, WI) and brothers Roger Pagels (Longmont, CO) and Richard Pagels (Michigan City). Mrs. Wendt was an avid musician, she was the staff pianist and music librarian for the new radio station WIMS in 1947; she was the organist and junior choir direction for six years at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; she served as the organist for eleven years at First Presbyterian Church. Additionally, Doris taught piano lessons from her home for many years. She was a life member of Phi Beta, a national music fraternity, past Dean of the American Guild of Organists, St. Joseph Valley, past president of Monday Musicale, past president of Chapter DF, PEO, a member of the Michigan City Historical Society, the Presbyterian Historical Society of Philadelphia, and a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. Doris and “Red” were co-historians for the First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Michigan City, or the Mayo Clinic Alzheimers disease research.
