Donnie B. Chambers, age 64, of Michigan City, died Wednesday, January 20 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. The service will be held Saturday, January 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, with Rev. Selvaraj Selladuraj officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 22 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, with a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. with a special memorial service following conducted by his good friend Pastor Jamie Maxey. Burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City. He was born November 27, 1945 in Hartselle, AL to Wallace and Minnie (Newton) Chambers, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 11, 1964 in Michigan City he married Diana Wojcik, she survives in Michigan City. Also surviving is his daughter Vicky (Mark) Burton, sons Mickey (Mary) and Tim (Chris) Chambers, daughter Tammy (Beau Johnson) Chambers, all of Michigan City, grandchildren Adam, Timmy, Jessie, Cody, Hannah, Ashley, Jason, Julie (Jeff), Melissa and Trisha, great-grandchildren Katie, Emma, Joey, Justin, Kaylee and Isabella, nephews & nieces Brett, Margie (Tom), Lisa, Greg, Melissa (Jason) Samantha, Randy, Danny and Tina, brothers George, Watsy, Ronnie and Gary Chambers, all of Michigan City, and many great nieces and nephews, and his little girl “Sandy”. He was preceded in death by his brother Doug Chambers and his father and mother-in-law Joe and Marion Wojcik. Donnie had been a welder and sheet metal operator with Josam Mfg. for 43 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and swimming. He was a member of the New Buffalo Rod and Gun Club. He also enjoyed motorcycling and any activity that involved his family. He was greatly loved by his family and known by those he loved as “daddy, pops, papa, sweetpea, and honeybunny”. He will be missed by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Research Hospital.
