Donald R. Schwartz, age 75, of Trail Creek, died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held Monday, December 29, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Don Dempsey officiating. Friends may call at Carlisle Funeral Home on Sunday 2-6 P.M. and at the church on Monday from noon until the service. Entombment will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens at Chapel of the Chimes Mausoleum.
Mr.Schwartz was born May 20, 1933 in Jasper, Indiana to Alvin and Edna (Moenkhaus) Schwartz both of whom are deceased. Survivors include Maxine Uebler Schwartz and their children Kim Schwartz, Los Angeles, Kaye (Richard) Engel, Acton, California and Michael (Kimberly) Schwartz-Three Oaks, Michigan; grandchildren Chris, Jacob, Katie, Jonathon and Jack, and brother Alvin “Richie” Schwartz of Worthington, IN, and three nieces, Vicky, Becky and Missy.
Donald was a graduate of Evansville College, where he lettered in baseball. He was a retired IRS agent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, 1952-1956.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a former elder, deacon and treasurer. Michigan City Lions Club, and Loyal Order of Moose #980. He was a volunteer for Salvation Army. He was also a member of the MC Senior Center, member and past president of Uhl Collectiors Society and past president, and former president of the American Heart Association. He was a life member of the VFW #2366, Huntingburg, IN, and life member of the American Legion, and former board member of International Friendship Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Michigan City Lions Club.
