Donald Lee Dodson, “D.L.”, age 83, a lifelong resident of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

Don is survived by his children: Roger (Heather) Dodson, Shirley (Bob) Hilbrich; grandchildren: Shannon (Ryan) Cox, Kristian (Karlee) Dodson, Peyton Dodson, Bob (Gera) Hilbrich, John (Chasity) Hilbrich, Amanda (Nik Sowa) Hilbrich; great-grandchildren: Trey and Clyde Cox, Klayton and Klara Dodson, Jacob, Donovan, Cecilia, Dezmyn, Trevor and Nik Hilbrich, Julian, Leah, and Vera Hilbrich, Rowan and Iyla Sowa; brother, Ray (late Dale) Dodson; sister, Carol (Bob) Carnahan; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends, and other family members.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Dodson; parents: Arthur and Edith Dodson; granddaughter, Alyssa Akemon; sister, Shirley Dodson; and brother, Alan Dodson.

Don was born and raised in the mining town of Imboden, VA, and moved to Crown Point with his family as a young man. He was a graduate of Crown Point High School, Class of 1958. Don was a retired auto worker with Ford Motor Company with over 42 years of service. While he loved Ford, he enjoyed working on Monte Carlos. He loved watching the Chicago Bulls, Bears, Cubs, and Notre Dame along with old westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. He was a jack of all trades having learned many skills through Ford and did all the work around his house.
Time spent with his family and friends was of great importance to Don and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Funeral Home with Pastor Ken Puent officiating. Interment to follow at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Don’s name to American Cancer Society or the food pantry at Cedar Lake Methodist Church.
