Donald C. Woodke, age 71, a life long Crown Point resident passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at St. Anthony Hospice with his family at his side. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June M., children; Michael Kimberly of Valparaiso, Michelle Chris Fetcko of Crown Point, Marc Kristine of Cedar Lake, grandchildren; Ian & Evan Woodke, Aubrey Miller, Jordan, Nicholas, Samantha & Elizabeth Fetcko, step-grandchildren; Anthony & Julia Sansone, brother; Robert Marla of Crown Point, sisters; Pauline Mayer of Wooddale, IL, Jessie John Laggis of Parowan, UT . He is preceded in death by his parents; Edith & Arthur Woodke and sister; Mary Griffin. Don was born on March 23, 1938. Mr. Woodke was a retired electrician from Local 697 with 35 years service. He was an avid White Sox fan, Bears fan, I.U. fan and Nascar fan. Don also loved to play golf. He was a former member of the Northwest Indiana Racing Pigeon Club. Mr. Woodke was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on several boards and at one time served as the boys basketball coach. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 11:00 AM directly at Trinity Lutheran Church, 250 S. Indiana Ave, in Crown Point with a visitation at the church at 10:30 AM, Pastor David Easterday officiating. Interment at Historic Maplewood Cemetery in Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre NOTE: NEW LOCATION – 2 blocks east of Broadway at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN. My condolences to Don's family, I'll miss communicating with my pigeon flying friend. Don was a great friend to discuss pigions and politics. Over the years we kept in touch and I knew Don was a good christian man. He was politically correct in what he spoke, he liked the pigeons and was a joy to cummunicate with. I'll miss him.

To June and family. We will miss Don and will miss your visits to Arizona. I'll always remember all of the help he gave us working on the house and he and Jim working together and listening to the two of them yapping it up. It was fun. Uncle Don, I had so much fun catching up with you and Aunt June over the last few years and I loved hanging out with you guys in Scottsdale! I'll always remember the summer I spent in Indiana with you and how much fun I had. You had your racing pigeons then and I thought they were so cool and beautiful.
