DOLORES CORINE JACOBSON

Dolores (Dee) C. Jacobson, age 86, of Long Beach, IN, passed on peacefully, Friday, January 16, 2009, at Whispering Pines Health Care, Valparaiso, IN.

Visitation is Saturday, January 24th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN. The funeral service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery Chapel, 153 Tilden Ave., Michigan City, IN. Pastor Richard A. Poole presiding. She was born March 27, 1922, in Chicago to George and Cora (Wolff) Schwartz, both of whom preceded her in passing. On September 24, 1949 in Chicago, she married William (Babe) G. Jacobson, Sr.; he preceded her in passing.

Surviving are her sons, William G. Jacobson, II, (Diane Behnke), Moss Landing, CA; Donald G. Jacobson, Dean (Martina) J. Jacobson, Michigan City, IN and three grand children; Alexandra, Benjamin, and Danielle. She was preceded in passing by a son, Douglas R. Jacobson and brother Glenn C. Schwartz.

Dee was an officer and sustaining member of The Service League of Michigan City, and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City and The Lutheran Church of the Dunes. She had been self-employed as an Amway and Neutralite Sales Distributor from 1970 to 1995, as well as many other community and volunteer efforts. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who gave continual support and instilled confidence and perseverance to her family of artists. She also had a reverence for all living things.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michiana Humane Society, Michigan City, IN.

Dee will be laid to rest by the side on her loving husband, Babe.

Peter O. - You are still so impressive. You described Dee perfectly. Thank you!! I remember her donating cookies to our lemonade stand to boost sales. I think we ended up pouring glasses of it on Dean and she gave us a by when he went in and told! I just spent smiling moments sharing stories with my parents about Dee and Babe. They were their favorites. Mom always remembers how badly Dee wanted to learn to water ski. When she fell, she wouldn't let go of the tow rope and everyone was yelling to her from the beach. Great memories of times so cherished. How lucky were we to have so many parents? Our thoughts, love and prayers are with your family.

We remember Dee and Babe as our wonderful neighbors, especially when our kids were growing up. We always had a few things to share with her as we walked by the house and she would be out gardening or picking up the mail. Our best to the family. Rose & Hal Higdon

Bill - my sympathies to you and your family. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. A fond memory I have of Mrs J centers around a scavenger hunt. Someone had a birthday party (can't remember who) & there was a scavenger hunt. The group that went to the Jacobson house won because Mrs J took the kids in and found every item on the list. It was so typical of her to give us the gift of her time - she never seemed to be too busy for us.

Bill, Paula called me to help her contact you. She is in FL and did not have a phone number or email. She told me that your mom had died. Please accept my condolences. I watched your video tribute to her. It was beautiful. It was also fun watching her change over the years and seeing pictures of you when you were a little guy, the Billy Jacobson I remember from LBS. Dear Bill, Don, & Dean: You guys were my brothers growing up on Lake Shore Drive, and Dee was my second mom. I probably spent as much time at your house as at my own, walking in the kitchen door like I belonged there and feeling thoroughly enveloped by her irrepressible good cheer and maternal love. She was the quintessential doting mom, always hugging, teasing, and feeding us. I dont think she was ever genuinely mad at anyone. She might scold, but then that twinkle would appear in her eye and you knew it was only for show, followed immediately by more love and hugs. Gentle, sweet, and patient. Im lucky I had a part of that. Please know that Im thinking fondly of her and all you guys.

I can't remember a time when "Mrs. J" did not have a smile on her face or bring a smile to mine. A more genuine or gracious person you could not hope to meet. She will certainly be missed but leaves her family with many happy memories. Jeff

Dee was a wonderful lady and a friend to everyone. She was the Mom for the whole neighborhood in Long Beach when her three sons were growing up. We are all better for having had Dee in our lives.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. Dee will be greatly missed. Especially by the remaining members of the Avelante Club.
