Debra Lynn (Schramm) Huber, age 68, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.

Deb was born in Gary, Indiana, on January 4, 1954, the daughter of the late Joseph & Ruth (Burton) Schramm. Her formative years were spent in Crown Point, graduating from Crown Point High School in 1972. Deb earned her nursing degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, in 1975. The exclamation “Boiler Up” was sure to elicit a response of “Hammer Down” from Deb.
In 1978, Deb married her high school sweetheart, David Huber. The marriage was blessed with three children: David, Joseph and Kathleen. For a period of time, Deb pursued her nursing career as a geriatric nurse at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Crown Point, serving for many years as Director of Nursing. As her family grew, she ultimately moved on to serving the St. Mary Catholic School Community, touching the lives of countless St. Mary students.

Service to her civic and church communities was a passion of Deb’s. Some of her activities and honors included: Catholic Order of Foresters (Legion of Honor Recipient); Tri Kappa – Gamma Theta Chapter (Past President); Boy Scouts of America – Troop 45 (Bronze Pelican Recipient); and St. Mary Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a devoted and founding member of the sisterhood known as “What’s The Point Book Club”.

Deb is survived by her husband of 44 years, David; her children, David (Eric) Hugo, Joseph (Bliss) Huber, and Kathleen (Todd) Wengel; grandchildren Walter Wengel, Ingrid Wengel, and London Huber; brothers David (Orva) Schramm and Robert (Ruth) Schramm.

Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ruth Schramm.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN, from 3 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Prayers will be said at the Funeral Home at 9:15 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 2, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 321 East Joliet St., Crown Point, at 10 am, concelebrated by Fr. Patrick Kalich and Fr. Kevin Huber.

In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to benefit: St. Mary Catholic Community School (Crown Point), VNA Hospice NWI (Valparaiso, IN), or Lake Courthouse Foundation (Crown Point).

Deb, Dennis & I were the 3 Musketeers every time we shopped. Our route was Homegoods in Tinley, lunch at Coopers Hawk in Orland, Trader Joe's and a Starbucks for the ride home. The fun & laughter are memories I will hold dear forever. She was an angel. One of a kind and I will miss her.

I am so sorry to hear of Debra's passing. My first real encounter with her was when I decided to take part in the blood draw that she set up at St. Mary's with the Healthchek Lab. Debra always had a bright smile. May she rest in peace and may her family be wrapped in God's peace.

Couldn’t be more sorry to hear of debs passing I lived my st Mary days with her She always had an open door. Something baking. A project for the kids and an incredible smile no one in the world could top She will be so very missed :(

We are very saddened to hear of our dear Nurse Huber's passing. Always a smile and hearty hello, Deb trained some of the best handwashers ever to graduate from St. Mary's School! So many fond memories of temperatures taken, Band-Aids placed, and kind words spoken. You were the best and will be missed!

Many great memories of growing up in CP with my cousin. She had a smile that lit up a room. We had a lot of laughs on Martin Dr with Uncle Joe and Aunt Ruth.... Peace be with her....

Debbie’s parents, Joe & Ruth, were good friends and cousins of my parents, Henry & Betty. We visited many times. So Debbie, David, and Bob were the Friends of Barbara, me, and Michael. In later years Barbara said Debbie was the sister she never had. So we are very close cousins. Debbie was always one of the best. She lived her life well. David and Debbie raised three good kids,, David, Joe, and Katie. Debbie’s legacy lives on in her family and all of us who were touched by her. I look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.

She was a wonderful woman! She was a great nurse! She loved people and we loved her! God welcomed her to heaven with opened arms! May she rest in peace!

I had the pleasure of working with her at St. Mary's and also with the Boy Scout troop. She always had a smile and cared about all of us that walked thru the school doors. She loved our kids, she never hesitated in helping any way she could. Prayers for her family. I got to watch her kids grow up for many years. RIP Deb. You will be missed by many

In a world that’s become increasingly selfish and unkind, Deb always treated all of us and our children with extreme selflessness and kindness. Her generosity encompassed all of us as she loved our children almost as much as her own! Deb was a rare woman whose heart was filled with compassion, humility, and gratitude, and she inspired all of us to be better! What a fabulous Blessing she was to all of us, and we remain grateful for her! Thank you Dave, David, Joe, and Katie for sharing her with all of us! Our hearts are broken now, but we are comforted in the knowledge that she resides with the One who heals and guides us all!
