Deborah L. “Debbie” Wagoner-Guse, age 60, of Michigan City, died Friday, September 4 at her residence in Michigan City.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 4:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home. The family will receive relatives and friends From 3:00 P.M. until time of service on Wednesday

She was born June 22, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Kenneth I. and Patricia A. (Smith) Wagoner, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are her sons Ben Guse of Michigan City, and Charlie Guse of South Bend, former husband William E. Guse of Michigan City, sister Janet (Darrel) Schramski of Mishawaka, brother William (Shelly) Wagoner of South Bend, sister Barbara Wilson of South Bend, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wagoner-Guse graduated from Riley High School, South Bend, Class of “67”. She later graduated from IUSB with her Bachelors in education where she later received her Masters in elementary education. Debbie began her teaching career at Jefferson Elementary School, Michigan City, 1971-1977, she later taught at Central Elementary School from 1977 to 1991, and spent the last 16 years at Joy Elementary School, where she taught first grade.

Her passion in life was her family and teaching for 38 years. Memorial contributions may be made to Franciscan Hospice in her memory.

My prayers, love, and thoughts are with you all and I wish I could be there with you now. The video brought back so many memories of Debbie and the whole family, that she loved so much. I will miss her so very much.

I last saw Mrs. Wagoner-Guse a few months ago at Jewel. Whenever we saw each other, she would say hello and asked about my daughter, who she taught 15 years ago at Joy. She truely cared about her students, and they are the better for having her. I'm pleased that I had the honor....

I am sorry to hear about Debbie. We taught together at Central for many years.I had many good times with her.

I was a classmate at Riley with Debbie and during my high school years, worked with her father Kenny at Stickler Plumbing & Heating. My thoughts and prayers are with Debbie's family at this time of their grief.

I am blessed to have known debbie. What a wonderful teacher she was. She will be greatly missed. ( My daughter was in her classroom last year 08-09)
