Dan Simion

Dan Simion, age 85, of Miller, IN, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2009. He was a member of the Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church. Dan graduated from Emerson High School in Gary. He was a member of the American Legion Post 279 in Miller. Mr. Simion served in the US Navy on the USS Dupage. He retired from Goldblatts Dept. Store in Gary as an Assistant Manager. Dan loved the beach, taking walks and enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elia and Anna Simion, sisters: Theresa, Helen, Mary, Florence, Rose: and brother Alex. Dan is survived by his niece and caregiver: Shirley Slavo Roy Smith, nieces: Victoria Luigi Pascolo, Marie Taylor, Gloria Tim Malis, Alice Hank Campos, Margie York, Rose Anne Danyluk, Mary Ann Larry Fitcher, Dolly Tony Sleigh, nephews: Rick Taylor, Kent Taylor, Julian Shirley Capata, Gary Capata, John Kathy Steblea, Ron Steblea and many great nieces and nephews, and special friend and playmate, KiKi. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM, directly at Descent of The Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church, 750 W. 61st Ave., Merrillville with Rev. David Hudson officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends may visit with the family, Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway in Merrillville. American Legion Post 279 will have a memorial service at 7:00 PM on Tuesday followed by a Saracusta service at 7:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to the family would be appreciated.
