Craig A. “Hungry” Phegley, age 37, of Michigan City, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 in his home in Michigan City. Services will be held Friday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Kim Cole officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, January 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Craig was born January 17, 1972 in Michigan City to Charles V. Phegley and Johnnie Mae (Thompson) Downey, both of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are his brother Charles D. (Dianne), nephew Collin Phegley of Michigan City, fiancé Amy Wood of Michigan City, step-father Richard N. Downey of Chesterton, brother Bryce (Rebecca) Glade of Griffith, IN, step-sisters Carrie Fennel of Michigan City and Christina C. (Matt) Mueller of Wheaton, IL; nephews and nieces Jordan, Stefen and Megan Glade, Heather Fennel and Amber Mueller, and many aunts, uncles and cousins in the south. He had been employed with Sullair as a machinist in the rotor shop for 13 years. Craig loved sports, especially the White Sox. He enjoyed playing fantasy football, softball, darts, mystery shows, and playing on his computer. Craig will be remember for having a heart of gold, always there to lend a helping hand or just to listen. He was a great friend and will be sadly missed by all who new him. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.

Wow out of all the tests we have in life I must say this is the hardest, saying good bye to a friend and someone who truly did have a heart of gold. 1972-2009 the dates are not as important as the dash in between this represents Craigs life which I was fortunate to know him since kindergarten. As life has many paths mine and Craigs did also. I went to college but once that ended Craig was there not only for friendship but also for a place to stay, he opened his door to many of his friends if you needed it Craig had it to give. He was my Dart Partner for many years including a second place finish at state. Softball teams, basketball teams if you needed Hungry he was there. From being in my wedding to the countless WWF matches we went to and of course the NSYNC concert, I say thanks for being there. Well we drifted in the past couple of years, but when you know someone for that long its hard not to remember all the times, the good,bad and ugly. To Amy, Dwayne, family and the countless number of friends I know Craig had I know he will be truly missed by all. Much love. Amy I didn't really know you but to capture Craigs heart and tie him down you TRULY had to be special and a blessing from God.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Craig. I graduated from Elston with him. He and ibecame friends the end of my Jr. year and throughout our Sr. year. What a super great guy. I have super memories of he and I piling into my car at lunch and trying to "beat the clock" to go and get a cheeseburger in town. :-) Of course- I always teased him that he never picked up his trash. He was a great guy to confide in when I had guy trouble or even parent troubles. My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family and especially his fiance.
