Cecil “CeeCee” C. Laas Foreman

May 12, 1924 - November 29, 2009

Cecil Clara Hare Laas Foreman of Michigan City, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009. Services will be held Thursday, December 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Gamauf officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City. She was born to Rufus and Ioma (Howe) Hare in Mexia, TX. They preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Guy F. Foreman. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 44 years, William “Bill” Laas. Also surviving is her daughter Sandra (Charles) Laas Brickley of Estero, FL, son-in-law Keith Eschenbaum, granddaughter Lindsay, Erie, CO, grandson Jason (Debbie) and great-granddaughters Leila and Charlotte of Hailey, ID, granddaughter Amanda (Melissa) Parker Brickley, sister Faye (Phillip) Morrow, Longview, TX, their families, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and former students. She was preceded in death by daughter Virginia “Ginger” Eschenbaum, and brother Charles Hare. CeeCee attended Harding University, Searcy, AK, Valparaiso University, IN and received her BS Ed and MS Ed degrees from Purdue University and Indiana University. CeeCee taught in the elementary schools of Michigan City for over 25 years, receiving numerous accolades and awards as an outstanding educator. She was inducted into the MC Educators “Wall of Fame” for outstanding achievement and excellence in service. She was a member of First Christian Church. She was also active in AAUW and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a survivor of the New London Texas School explosion on March 18, 1937. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice. CeeCee would ask that if you’ve read this, “Thank a teacher”.

To The Foreman and Laas Families: Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of a wonderful classy lady. Mrs Laas was my teacher at Knapp School approximately 36 years ago. She was strict and stern but kind and giving, a teacher that I will never forget. So I, too, want to "Thank a Teacher".

Mr. Foreman, Please have my deepest condolences, and those of my brothers and sister, at your loss. You were a close friend of our father's; and you are very much part of my best memories of youth in Michigan City. Please keep well and please keep your faith.

Dear Sandy And Guy, I will always remember Cecil; her warm smile and affectionate hug. There were many years between "Mrs. Laas" and "Cecil" but I was so pleased that she remembered me and was so kind to me and my family when we would come back to MC to visit the church. "The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops yet it echoes on in sweet refrains...For every joy that passes something beautiful remains." A beautiful memory of Cecil will always remain in my heart. The Lord bless you and keep you in His arms.

I remember her as Mrs. Laas when I attended Knapp School. She was the embodiment of true southern lady and a teacher who truly touched her students. My deepest sympathies to your entire family.

Foreman/Laas Family, my deepest sympathies to your entire family on the passing of a wonderful woman. I was blessed to have Mrs Laas as a teacher 36 years ago and I can still picture myself in her classroom hanging on to her every word. She was an extraordinary teacher who had a real influence on my life. And yes, I would like to "Thank A Teacher"!!!
