CATHERINE KUNAS (nee Kozel), age 88, of Valparaiso and formerly of Ogden Dunes, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019.

She is Survived by two daughters: Deborah (Dennis) Hinkle and Sandra Kelley; brother: John (Jan) Kozel; many nieces and nephews.

Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents: John and Mary Kozel; and sister: Mary Beres.

She was a graduate from Holy Trinity Grade School and Tolleston High School, Class of 1949. She married Edward Kunas on August 27, 1949 at Holy Trinity.

Family and friends may gather at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville, IN) on Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 3:00-7:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, June 28, 2019 at 9: 30 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 10:00 A.M. from SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Rev. James Meade officiating. At rest: Calumet Park Cemetery.

Believing in the messages of Jesus one can take comfort knowing Catherine shed her cloak of earthly existence passing not through a vail of darkness but a vail of indescribably beautiful light to be immersed in love, a love only this freedom can know . I'd like to envision the soul of my mother, Mary imparting to her sister Catherine,"We really do,do things different here! She is loved more than we can ever imagine.

My deepest sympathy to my cousins, Sandy an Deborah on the passing of your Mother and my aunt. I have warm memories of spending time at the Ogden Dunes home and holiday gatherings at the Kozel grandparents ‘ home. Our loved ones live on in our hearts.

I know that this is a difficult time for you. My hope is that you will be comforted from God’s inspired word the Bible. John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:4 gives hope of a future resurrection and the complete elimination of death, pain and mourning.
