CANDIDO RODRIGUEZ, age 78 of Puerto Rico; formerly of Gary, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2016 surrounded by his loved ones.
He is survived by his loving wife Carmen “Rey” (nee Sanchez); five children: Nolberto Rodriguez, Yvonne Rodriguez, Agneris (Bruce) Riley, Carmen Milagros (Erik) Hayes, Edward (Diana) Rodriguez; four grandchildren: Edward Johnathan Casillas, Candace A. Hayes, Jacob Riley, Kelsey Rey Hayes; great-grandson Zander Casillas; his siblings: Norma, Olga, Johnny, & Rita Rodriguez; special aunt Aleja Rodriguez; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by brother Arturo Rodriguez and parents Isidro and Santa Rodriguez.
Candido served his country in the U.S. Army. He then worked for and retired from Inland Steel with 36 years of service. After retiring, he and Carmen moved to Puerto Rico and lived there for 21 years. Candido was an avid baseball fan, was a Sudoku whiz, and loved to BBQ with his family. More than anything, his greatest passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville) on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 9:15 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel and 10:00 A.M. from Holy Angels Cathedral (640 Tyler St., Gary). At rest Calumet Park Cemetery.
