C. Edward Hedstrom, age 90, of Michigan City, died Thursday, January 1, 2009 at The Arbors of Michigan City. Services will be held Tuesday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Ausburg Lutheran Church, Porter, IN, with Rev. Erik Bernth officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, with a service by Eastern Star at 7:00 p.m. and a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. and visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service at the church. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City.
Mr. Hedstrom was born April 3, 1918 in Michigan City to Carl E. and Rose (Wiseman) Hedstrom, Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. On June 29, 1941 in Gary, he married Rachel Little, she passed away May 2, 2006.
Surviving are daughter Barbara (Robert) Reicher of Michigan City and son Ray (Donna) Hedstrom of Lagrange, IN; grandson Dr. Ryan (Dr. Joy Struble) Hedstrom, great-granddaughter Miriam Struble-Hedstrom, and brother Kenneth (Phyllis) Hedstrom of Michigan City.
Mr. Hedstrom had been an engineer with the CSS & SBRR, the South Shore, for 43 years until his retirement in 1983.
He was past master of Acme Lodge No. 83 F & AM, Scottish Rite 32 degree, York Rite, Recorder Emeritus of Orak Shrine, Oriental Band, past master unit, LaPorte Chapter 280 Order of Eastern Star.
