Brett Mellis, age 36, of Easley, SC, formerly of Cedar Lake, IN, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 15, 2024.
Brett is survived by his mother, Sue (Tim) Malmquist; brothers: Brian Mellis, Danny (Megan) Mellis; nieces and nephews: Abigail and Grace Mellis, Murphy and Max Mellis; and his many aunts, uncles, cousins, good friends; and his best friends “Murphy” and “Mia”.
Brett was preceded in death by his father, Marty Mellis; and his maternal grandparents: Jack and Nancy O’Keefe; and paternal grandparents: Martin and Mary Mellis.
Brett was raised in Cedar Lake, IN, and was a graduate of Crown Point High School, Class of 2006. He then earned a bachelor degree in sports management at Indiana State University. Brett worked at FedEx Freight in Chicago Heights and Indianapolis before moving to St. Pete, FL where he began his career in residential construction management. Brett was a sports fanatic and shared that love of sports with his Mom. He enjoyed golfing, water sports, and walking his dogs.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave. Crown Point, IN 46307 from 1:00 PM until the time of Memorial Service at 4:15 PM.

My heart is broken for the Mellis family. My parents and I send our condolences. When I moved to Florida, Brett was one of the first people I became close to. He taught me how to slow down (like a true Floridian!) and enjoy the simple things— sunset walks with Murphy around St. Pete Beach, Taco Tuesdays, baseball games at Tropicana. He loved living on the beach. He was made for that lifestyle! I will always think of him when I go to SPB. We had a lot of laughs and I’m grateful we crossed paths. Rest in Peace, Brett.
