BENEDICT A. BENFURTO of Hebron formerly of Merrillville passed away Saturday May 3 2008. Survived by wife of 60 years Bernice son Robert (Janice) Furto of Tinley Park IL daughter Linda (William) Burns of Kouts IN four grandchildren: Dr. Eric (Dr. Lisa) Furto of Plainfield IL Jill Furto of Tinley Park IL Bryan (Dr. Heather) Burns of Kouts IN David (Kelly) Burns of Kouts IN sister Marge (Dr. Anthony) Prombo of Morris IL three brothers: Tom (Helen) Furto of Crest Hill IL Frank (Ann) Furto of Crest Hill IL Anthony Mican of Schererville nieces and nephews and devoted pet Abby. Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Mary Furto two brothers: John and Joseph three sisters: Agnes Mary and Theresa. Mr. Furto was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church Hebron and a former member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Merrillville for 35 years. He was a retired Hallden & Shear Operator from #2 Cold Strip Inland Steel Co. with 39 years of service a member of USWA Local 1010 and Inland Steels 25 Year Club. He was a graduate of Joliet Twp. High School and a WWII Army veteran. He served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatres and fought in the battles of Archipelago Bismarck New Guinea and Luzon. He was a member of American Legion Post 207 since 1986 and VFW Post 1563 since 1957.
