February 3, 1946 - January 22, 2010

Basilia Canchola nee Hurtado, age 63, of Merrillville, IN, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Javier, mother, Elvira Manuel Herrera, 6 children: Xavier Jr., Alfonso, Suzanna Kevin Spires, Patricia, Martin and Karina; 3 grandchildren: Alexander Spires, Alice Canchola and Vyctoria Canchola, many loving brothers and sisters, numerous nieces , nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN with Pastor Larry Raftery officiating. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may visit with the family at Geisen Funeral Home, on Monday, January 25, 2010 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Mrs. Canchola was born in Zamora Michaocan, Mexico. Basilia was a member of Laurel Church, where she wished to share the Lord with everyone who entered her life. She touched many lives. Basilia formerly attended Women of Aglow meetings. She loved being a homemaker, a giver and loved to smile and touch peoples hearts. Basilia was one of a kind. She was probably the kindest person that I have ever known and I will never forget that signature smile of hers.

To say the glass was half-filled for Mrs. C would be an injustice. Her glass was overflowing with understanding, and kindness. She had an unwavering love for God, family, and friends. While she will be missed by all of us, God's home, just got brighter.
