Barbara Pawlak

BARBARA BARNES PAWLAK of Arizona formerly of Merrillville went to her eternal reward on June 10 2011 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. She graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee WI with a bachelor of arts degree in English and U.S. History. She was employed as a reporter for the Gary Post Tribune. She married Eugene Stanley Pawlak on September 10 1960 and they raised four children who survive: Dr. Eugene (Dr. Elizabeth) of Madison IN Kathleen of Tempe AZ Stephen (Judi) of Kihei Maui and Kevin (James) of Phoenix AZ along with three grandchildren: Gabrielle and Nathaniel of Madison IN and David of Kihei Maui. Barbara worked as the Public Information Officer for Diocese of Gary Schools and Lake County Park Department before joining the Village Shopping Center as Marketing Director and later Manager. For five years she wrote a weekly column Family Farefor the Gary Edition Our Sunday Visitor. She retired and joined Catholic Charities of Gary as Public Relations Officer and member of Family Life Ministry before retiring again in 1999. In 2000 she moved to Tempe AZ becoming active in church and community affairs. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday June 25 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church (5885 Harrison St. Merrillville) with Msgr. Joseph Semancik officiating. At rest Calumet Park Cemetery Merrillville. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.
