Arthur G. Thaler, age 87, of Michigan City, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at St. Anthony Memorial Health Care. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor Benjamin Griffin officiating. Arthur was born April 30, 1922 in Weehawken, NJ to George and Esther (Hobb) Thaler, both of whom preceded him in death. Also surviving is his son Arthur G. Thaler III of West Palm Beach, FL, daughters Jilleen M. Malobicky of St. Paul, MN, Danielle N. Thaler of Michigan City and his son Robert E. Thaler of Orlando, FL, granddaughters Elizabeth Malobicky and Madelene Thaler, sister Frances Kasper of Manchester, NH, and brothers Robert (Joan) Thaler of Cape Coral, FL and William (Vi) of Paducah, KY. He was preceded in death by his sons Arthur G. Thaler II and Eric B. Thaler, sister Dorothy Kohler and brother George Thaler. He was a devoted father who put his children before anything else. He was a wonderful grandpa who always had candy treats for his granddaughters. Mr. Thaler served with honor the the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He was known for mink grading and construction. He was the local handyman until 2 months before he joined God. He was a great man. He will be missed by many. Memorial contributions may be made to the family toward his granddaughter’s college fund.
