ARTHUR BURTON HAVERSTOCK, JR., age 90 of Crown Point, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 Survived by three children: Susan Kay (Dr. David) Mengel, Thomas Gloe (Marcia) Haverstock, Jane Ann (John) Gorball; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Jewell (late Bill) Koenig; daughter-in-law: Jane Haverstock. Preceded in death by wife, Doris; son, Arthur Haverstock; sisters: Alice Hill and Goldie Mae McKee. Arthur was a member of Southlake Christian Church, Crown Point. He was a life member of American Legion Post 20 and Calumet Leather Crafters Association. Arthur was a retired school teacher from the Gary School System with 30 years of service. He was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association and John Purdue Club. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served in Okinawa. Arthur was a graduate of Purdue University and also received his masters degree from Purdue University. Family and friends may call at Pruzin & Little Funeral Service, 811 E. Franciscan Dr. (south of St. Rd. 231 on St. Rd. 55), Crown Point on Sunday, February 1, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. from Pruzin & Little Chapel with Pastor Chuck Hochmuth officiating. At rest Maplewood Memorial Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Southlake Christian Church.

I had Mr. Haverstock in 5th. or 6th. grade at Franklin school in Glen Park (1955 or 1956). He was my favorite teacher of my school years. He took a shy average student under his wing. He took his patience, kindness and knowledge and made me shine with A's and B's. He was a remarkable teacher and man. He truly impacted my life. I was saddened to hear of his passing. May God bless him and he rest in peace. My sympathies to his family.
