ANTHONY “TONY” RIGA, age 82 of Miller, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014. The loving son of John Riga and Clara (nee Faga) Riga who both preceded him in passing. Tony is survived by daughter Deborah (Dave) Gardner, whom he raised with unconditional love, granddaughters Lauren Riga who offered care and companionship until he left, and granddaughter Courtney Riga who had her own special place in G’s heart. Other survivors include Carolyn Riga, Rebecca Riga, cousins Cefalis, Fagas, and Panozzos, and his ever loyal cats and dog, Sophie. Loving and caring for all will be his eternal legacy. Tony came to America as a young child. He was a graduate of Froebel High School, Class of 1949 and went on to serve his country in the Army. He was a graduate from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Indiana University with a MBA. Tony opened Ranburn Rx Drugs on Ridge Road and Cleveland Street, one of the last independently owned drug stores in Northwest Indiana. Here, until the end, he continued to serve his community with care and compassion for over 50 years. Friends and customers knew they could always stop here and visit with Tony. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville) on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel with Rev. Roy Beeching officiating. Anthony will be laid to rest at Calumet Park Cemetery with his parents.
