Alex Einikis

ALEX WILLIAM EINIKIS JR age 86 of Merrillville IN passed away Wednesday April 23 2008 after a short illness. He was born in Gary IN on September 13 1921 to Alexander and Stella Einikis both deceased. Alex married Rose Wasik who survives on April 14 1951. In their younger years they enjoyed traveling and Alex always had a story to share of places he saw the meals he shared and the people he met on his travels. Together Alex and Rose shared the joy of raising four children: Marilyn (Robert) Hopkins of Griffith IN Darlene (Raymond) Vassil of Hobart IN Alexander (Joyce) Einikis of Hobart IN and Paul (Judith) Einikis of Crown Point IN proud grandpa to Aaron (fiancee Christina Miller) Hopkins of Chicago IL Daniel Hopkins of Griffith IN Tiffany (fiance Greg Mendez) Vassil of Fort Wayne IN Heather and Jacob Vassil of Hobart IN Sarah Stacy Steven and Samantha Einikis of Hobart IN and Nicholas and Natalie Einikis of Crown Point IN. He also leaves behind his twin sisters: Laura White of Hobart IN and Florence Alabach of Sarasota FL and his beloved canine friend Toby. He was preceded in death by sister Johanna Riley. Alex was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tuscaloosa and was the recipient of numerous battle stars and awards. He was a member of American Legion Post 289. He was founder and former president of Air Filter Heating and Cooling in Gary IN and served as president of the Sheet Metal Contractors Association. He also served on the Board of Directors of Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Indiana. Friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service 6360 Broadway Merrillville Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 Sunday.
