ABEL ANTONIO GONZALEZ, Sr. age 74, of Portage, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Mary Chelo Gonzalez; son Ralph (Sandra) Gomez; son, David Gonzalez; daughter, Judy (Edward) Wallace; daughter, Marie (Chris) Buxton; son, Abel (Holli) Gonzalez; daughter, Yvonne (Mario) Quinones; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Globe Industries was lucky to have him employed there for 25 years. He retired from there to enjoy time with his family. Abel was a loving husband and a great father. He taught his children about the Lord’s Day and how to tithe, how to love, and to see that beauty is found on the inside and uniqueness of a person. These life-lessons were also shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, while graciously teaching them how to sweep the floor and take out the trash. Abel’s kids smile and laugh while remembering the weekends spent at Whihala beach and the White Castles that followed. He always took the “scenic route”, enjoying the journey as well as the destination. When listening to the family talk about their father, grandfather, husband, and brother, you can feel the love that poured out from him and for him. His smile brightened the room and his laugh was contagious. He truly lived the words he often spoke, “In every mind is a different world.” Abel will be missed, but his spirit lives on in the many lives he touched. Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (2700 Willowcreek, Portage) on Friday from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. DIRECTLY from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church (2447 Putnam St., Lake Station) with Rev. Frank Torres officiating. Cremation will follow the mass. There will be visitation at the church one half-hour prior to services.
