My Pappy was one of the most influential people in my life. Even as someone who was extremely humble and seldom took credit for his own accomplishments, he never hesitated to let us know how proud he was of everything we’d accomplished.Looking back, I always felt that Pappy was one of the first people to truly believe in me. When I was in 12 or 13, I loved to write and started my own family newspaper called ‘The Marrs Times.’ I’d write articles about what our guinea pigs were doing or which of Granny’s cats had kittens in the backyard. Pappy was the most avid supporter of ‘The Marrs Times’ and would email it to all his relatives, while encouraging me to keep writing. He was the first person to teach me how to drive. For years he told everyone who would listen the story of how he instructed me to turn for the first time and I didn’t realize I had to brake. We whipped around the turn and he would say I stayed “calm as a cucumber” then brought the truck to a stop. We laughed so hard afterwards. As someone who could probably have always used a bit more confidence growing up, I have always looked back and reflected on how important it was to me that I always knew Pappy truly believed in me. While I will miss him immensely, I feel so lucky to have had him be such a huge part of my life for 27 years.

David was a wonderful brother-in-law & always ready to help anyone out of a jam. In a power failure he was the one to call, he had the tools & know how to bring over a generator & safely warm up your home or repair your fridge to save your food or get your stranded car going. He had a brilliant mechanical mind & loved the challenge of problem solving. He had a wry gentle sense of humor & a twinkle in his eye when trading barbs with friends & family. Playing the guitar with friends, telling stories of growing up on the farm in the wild green “ hollers” of WV. He succeeded at at every thing he put his hand to. Building his gorgeous cozy home to fulfill my sisters creative visions, barns for their horses, & shops, gardens, pools on the flat prairie corn fields of Indiana. Now a green forest oasis, rich with flowers, fruits, berries. A visit to Linda & David is like a 4 star resort vacation with your own private custom home grown delicacies, pools, motorcycles, snow mobiles, quad runners, tennis, pickleball, turtle races, frog jumping & nature center. He went on building homes with his 2 sons to help them start the journey of their own lives. He left all our lives so much richer in every way
