Thomas Shirlow Moffett, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 14, 2023 in Demotte, IN.
Thomas was born on November 25, 1937 in Gary, Indiana to Thomas Moffett Sr. and
Marie (Kors) Moffett.
Thomas attended Crown Point High School becoming part of the class of 1956. Post high school, he was particularly proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps and his service in the United States Navy and Naval Reserves. He served in San Diego, Hawaii, and Japan, as well as in the Great Lakes. After his Navy service, he joined the U.S Steel Corporation and received training to become an electrician. He worked at various industrial electrical engineering supervisory positions until his retirement.
Raising a growing family in Crown Point, Indiana, Thomas enjoyed taking his family, Marie, Kathy, Jeanne, Laura, Nancy and Tom on vacation, camping, and road trips. Some of his favorite times were going down Route 66 to the western United States to visit friends and family with his car full of kids. He was an avid fisherman, at one point catching a striper bass weighing over 25 pounds. After his family was grown, he continued to travel around the United States with children and grandchildren, going to many of the National Parks from Maine to California. He loved spending long visits with his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Cherie and their children in New Mexico. He had a passion for raising yorkie puppies.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Sr. and Marie E. Moffett; sister, Judy Moffett; daughter, Jeanne E. Moffett; and granddaughter, Jennifer Muehlman.
His memory is carried on by his children, Marie A. Furmanski, Kathy (Brkljac) Cofer, Laura (Jeff) King-Licht, Nancy (Craig) Muehlman, Thomas S. Moffett, III. Also his brother and sister-in-law, Stephan and Cherie Moffett; aunt, Evelyn Kors Zaug; 13 grandchildren: Christopher Furmanski, Marie (Tom) Abner, Eli Brkljac, Carena Mishler, Michael Brkljac, Sara Cofer, Miranda (Comron) Fouladi, Justin King, Jordan King, Jason Licht, Brian Muehlman and Farrah Muehlman, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Friends and family may meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. The Funeral Mass will follow at St. Mary Catholic Church in Crown Point, IN at 11:00 AM.
Interment to follow with military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Crown Point, IN.
