Stephen Allen Civanich, age 82, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Merrillville, IN, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. He was born on July 6, 1940, in Gary, Indiana, to Stephen and Bertha Civanich.

Stephen is survived by the love of his life, wife, Susan (nee Warne); sons: Stephen Jr. (Brenda) Civanich, Scott (Michele) Civanich; daughter, Boyann (Alfred) Bonjean; grandchildren: Mark and Matthew Civanich, Megan, Adam and Justin Civanich, Michael (Angela) Ellch and Dan (Prerna) Ellch; and three great-grandchildren.

Stephen was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Natalie Ann Civanich.

Stephen was a graduate of Culver Military Academy, Class of 1958 and earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University later in life. He trained with the U.S. Air Force in Big Spring, Texas in their jet pilot program and served in the Air Force Reserves and Indiana National Guard. Stephen retired from U.S. Steel, Gary Works, in December 1999 as a manager with 36 years of service. He enjoyed golfing, boating and Florida trips with his beloved Susan, woodworking, painting cars, flying planes (real and models).

Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM with the Funeral Service at 6:00 PM.

A Graveside Service for his family will be held at Calumet Park Cemetery.
