She is survived by her son, Nicholas (Mary Claire); father, Al Weiss (Patricia); sister, Cindy Weiss; brother, Jeff Weiss (Darcy); nieces, Kayla and Kenzie, and nephew, Declan. She was preceded by her mother, Patricia.
In grade school, Shelley participated in Children’s International Summer Village, representing the United States at camps for international children during consecutive summers in Philadelphia and Michigan City. While remaining a devout Christian, she always remained interested in the meditative and mindful practices she learned in Hawaii. She also loved books about spirituality. She made close friends at USD, with whom she kept in contact with throughout her adult life.
Shelley enjoyed working for several years at Sharing Meadows, a not-for-profit Christian organization that serves the residential, vocational, and social needs of mentally challenged or other-abled adults. She also worked for several years at Michiana Resources, now named Paladin, a resource center for persons with disabilities.
Shelley loved animals and advocated for animal welfare and donated to wildlife organizations. She usually kept a least one animal in the house, and enjoyed stories about her friend’s and family’s pets. She and liked to watch the deer, turkeys, or other animals that frequented the woods behind her home.
She loved spending time with her eldest grandson, Hunter, playing board games and animal urgent care as well as watching movies and attending his basketball games at Queen of All Saints.
