George & Robin Thompson left a message on January 15, 2023:
Barb, Lynn & Carla, We are so sorry for your loss. Over twenty years ago we heard about the Cummings. We rarely heard such praise from our father when talking of the people he knew. The Cummings were at the top of his list. We knew we had to take the time to get to know them, boy are we glad we did! Bob was a very unique individual. He knew how to make someone feel like they were the most important individual in the room. His smile and words were so kind and loving…always made you feel like you were part of his family. His hugs and laughs brought such joy - you would be crazy not to include him in your life. I remember hiking in the woods and picking black raspberries. I baked a pie that day and Bob and Barb came to the farm for a visit. I brought the pie out to offer a slice. Yep...you guessed it - Bob made you feel like he just won the lottery. I will miss this gentle, unselfish individual. I am sure when leaving here and entering your the gates you were greeted with the words “Well done Good and Faithful Servant. You have been faithful over little”. Now you have it all.

Kathy Nimmer left a message on January 4, 2023:
He was the man of water: lakes, oceans, sail boats, tans, seawalls, life jackets, buoys, shorts, motorboats, all things aquatic. He believed a little girl losing her vision could learn to water ski, and I did. He taught us how to lean, duck, swivel, and relish an elegant sailboat voyage. He and his wife were so much family that they were who would have been guardians to me and my brother if something had happened to our parents before we were of age. He attended piano recitals, plays, graduations, awards ceremonies, dinner banquets, and every Indiana Teacher of the Year event that was within driving distance for him. He loved my mom’s desserts, my dad‘s talks about investments, and my guide dogs, all of them, including the single time he met Tate which was the last time I saw him alive. He loved me. I loved him. I miss him. My life is better for having known Bob Cummings for almost 50 of my 53 years on this earth. I grieve him. As Lucille Clifton wrote in her poem “Blessing the Boats,” ……… “May you open your eyes to water, water waving forever, and may you in your innocence sail from this to that. Grace and Peace, Kathy Nimmer and Tate
