Richard E. Bacon, age 62, of Cedar Lake, IN, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

Richard is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cindy Bacon (nee VanVlymen); 2 sons: Kyle (Mallory) Bacon, Cody Bacon; 2 grandchildren: Adam and Aubrey Bacon; brother, Dan Bacon; sister, Vicki (Darren) Zachocki; father-in-law, Lewis (Nancy) VanVlymen; mother-in-law, Sharon Monroe; sisters-in-law: Stacey (Rick) Hill, Vicki (Dan) Glover and Patti Bacon; brother-in-law, Lew VanVlymen; and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Glen Bacon and Virginia Taynton; and brother, David Bacon.

Richard retired after 35 years as an ironworker. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and enjoyed playing the guitar. Richard was very friendly and never met a stranger. He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren. Richard was the most devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Geisen Funeral, Cremation & Reception Centre, 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307 from 4:00 PM until the time of Funeral Service at 7:00 PM with Pastor Jamie Constant officiating.

Richard will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with his family at Chapel Lawn & Memorial Gardens in Crown Point, IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Richard’s family.

To Cindy and Family, I was shocked and truly saddened to learn of Rich's passing. We met in High School and played in a garage band together. Rich was always kind and friendly and I'm glad we stayed in touch throughout the years after I moved to California. He was a great guitar player and I know he truly enjoyed playing. Back in the day, when we played in the band together, one of my favorite songs that we played together was the live version of Rock Bottom. Today I was in Jimmy John's with my daughter and I was scrolling through Facebook, and I came across Cindy's post. As I sat there thinking about memories I have of Richard, Rock Bottom came on over the radio playing in the restaurant. What a coincidence. Rest in peace Richard, and Rock on brother!🙏
