I met Dan when he was a resident at Bickford where my mom is living. Whenever I saw him, I would shake his hand and he would squeeze my hand so hard. One day I went up and said hello and we shook hands again and I said "Dan, I'm gonna call you Vice Grip.' When I saw him after that and called him Vice Grip, he would just start laughing. He was a good man during the short time I knew him and after reading his life story, it just confirmed my beliefs. May Vice Grip rest in peace. Condolences to the entire family.

I first meet Dan back around 1970 or 71 when I was into old motorcycles. I had a 1944 Indian and was a friend of George Bud Hayes who knew Dan. Bud introduced me to Dan and we became good friends and worked on old vehicles together. I have MANY great memories I will hold dear of Dan and his wife. I owe him a lot for all the help he was to me. It was a true pleasure being his friend for so long. Thank you buddy for all you did for me. I will miss you.

Wendi, So sorry to hear about Papa's passing. He was always super friendly to me & just like your mom & grandma, always made me feel like I was a part of the family. And he always managed to make me laugh with something he said. No doubt, he will be missed. Please know that you and your family are all in my thoughts & prayers during this difficult time. Big hugs to you all ...
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I also wanted to include this photo of Dan during a work session that we had on a Sherman tank.

Dan was one of a kind. He was a great friend, mentor and wealth of knowledge for those of us in the military vehicle hobby. He was always ready and able to help. He’d show up with that twinkle in his eye, his tools and a steady confidence that whatever the problem was….he could fix it! And he did. Might be St. Peter’s Jeep’ll need a tune up. Who knows. You will be missed my friend. My deepest condolences to your family.
