I didn't get to know Ralph until Alzheimer's had already stolen so much of his memory and abilities but he was always cheerful and kind in our interactions. I know this has been a long, difficult journey for you, Shirley...praying for you as you mourn the loss of your best friend. HUGS!

Rest in Peace Dad. I know you're watching down on us like a guardian angel. In life you were like a guardian angel as well, always helping anyone in need. Everybody who knew you, says what a great man you were. Of course I knew that very well. I so enjoyed our conversations about science. You were always reading and you thirst for knowledge was insatiable. I learned so much from you. You were a great teacher and a greater father. Love you, miss you RIP dad. Your son, Don

Among my memories, I just loved all my "great" uncles, but there was something special about uncle Ralph and aunt Shirley...for one...they remembered my name and that I was Kathy's daughter. (LOL) Uncle Ralph was genuinely concerned and excited to talk to all of his extended family and look at pictures. He truly was a family man and a proud Settle. My deepest condolence to all!
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Aunt Shirley, Don, Ralph, Dave, Tom, John and all of your big family, I have a heavy and broken heart with the loss of Uncle Ralph. He was my Uncle, my Godfather and my first Mentor. He started me in my career when he hired me as a clerk in the Metallurgical Lab at the now defunct USS Tubing Specialties. I really liked working with the Sales Dept. there. Because of that Uncle Ralph pushed me to go into Steel sales and subsequently I did. He liked people and he knew I did too and I would do well. I did well and I loved it. Because of my career, we had to talk "steel" every time we met. :) He was always was so complimentary to my sisters and I, he always made us feel good. Every time I saw him he told me how special my mom was to him and the entire extended family. He also complimented my dad, husband and son. He was tickled that he shared a birthdate with my son. These are things he would say EVERY time we had a long conversation. He was always so sweet. I loved when they lived in LOFS because I got to see them often. Also, when I would leave for work in morning, he would be walking with a golf club and we would stop to chat. He would wave the cars behind me to go around until we were done talking. :) My last visit with him was right before our family reunion in early June this year. When I was saying goodbye, he said "I'm glad we know you", I told him I am glad I know him too! ? I love you, RIP Uncle Ralph. I know you have already found someone in heaven to talk steel with!

Uncle Ralph loved to talk and tell stories. He loved to talk about the steel industry. He really had “ steel in his blood”. He will be missed. Much love to Aunt Shirley and family. Miriam

John, Karen and the rest of the Settle family, Ann and I want to pass on our condolences to all of you. I never had the privilege to meet him, but i have been fortunate enough to spend time with John, Karen and a few of his brothers over the years. Your father did a great job raising his children. May your father rest in peace. Keith & Ann Hazelwood

So sorry for your loss. I hadn’t seen your father since Don & Kim’s wedding, so many years ago. May you all find peace in your father’s passing, & the knowledge that his struggle has ended, may he rest in peace.

Dad seemed to love people, would talk to anyone about anything, ask your name, what do you do, where are you from and have a comment or story to share, and he loved this family! Among many traits he left with me, I sometimes think about the times I helped him do repairs around our houses and how today I turned into Mr. fix it around my house. And his love of golf rubbed off on me, I love the game and recall he and I won the Member-Guest Tournament in Naples FL (D-flight) :) . Many think of how much he loved his work and while he was a Titan in the steel industry and loved to work hard and take care of the customer, he enjoyed so much more in life and was a great teacher to me! Love you Dad! And miss you so much. Rest in Peace. And GO IRISH!!
