PHILLIP “PHIL” KALINOWICZ, age 70 of Crown Point, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Survived by his wife Jane (nee Yaros) Kalinowicz of 34 years; four children: Sheryl (David) Fonner, Jeremy Kalinowicz, Amy (Zach) Sowash, Amanda (fiance Nick Foster) Kalinowicz; four grandchildren: Tara, Katelyn, Colin, and Gavin.

Mr. Kalinowicz was a retired expanded millwright from The Ore Docks, Gary Works, U.S. Steel with 43 years of service. Phil attended Calumet High School, served in the Army during the Vietnam War, was a member of American Legion Post #20, Local 1014, and was the former Vice President of Beaver Dam Village in Crown Point.

Family and friends may call at Pruzin Brothers Funeral Service (6360 Broadway, Merrillville) on Tuesday from 2:00-8:00 P.M. with a Legion Service at 7:00 P.M. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. from Pruzin Brothers Chapel. At rest St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Crown Point.

Jane and family, We had such good times together. I was out with Jane and Phil the night I met my husband. Phil was always the guy with the quip to get you to smile. Time goes by way too quickly. You know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I guess he'll have to route on the Irish from above now. I love you all.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I am a former neighbor that lived next door to the Kalinowicz's on 47th Avenue. Although I didn't know Phil well, I was friends with his younger sisters, Nancy & Paula, in my younger days. There are no words that can tell you how sorry I am and how deeply saddened by your loss. May you find comfort and strength in the warmth and caring of friends and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jane and Family, Of course we were all shocked and saddened by the text message Sharon sent us Friday. My husband Bob and I had a "toast" to Phil later that day as well as shared some fun memories of Phil. Bob told me that he said Phil was the first relative of mine to take a liking to him! He also remembered that Phil was the one who gave him his big blue gloves from the milland Bob still uses those gloves to this day! We will all truly miss Phil. God Bless you all.
