Norma Whybrew (nee: Houts), age 94, of Michigan City, IN, formerly of Schoolcraft, MI, passed away
on Sunday, December 12, 2021.
Norma was born on December 18, 1926, in Marcellus, MI, to Emerson E. and Bernice M. (Kidd) Houts
who preceded her in death.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (William) Ballard; grandchildren, Matthew Kominiarek,
Annette Kominiarek, Christine Schumann, Emily Kominiarek, Father Joel Phelps, Scott Phelps, and Neal
(Hannah) Phelps; great grandchildren, Tom, Elise, Vance, Henry, Maris, and Charlotte; daughter in law,
Alane Phelps; and many other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Whybrew; sons, Jack and Patrick Phelps, brother,
Errol (Jeanette) Houts, and sister, Patricia (Neal) Aldrich.
Norma started and owned her own business, Whybrew Insurance Agency. She took pride in being active
in the business community and loved taking care of her customers for decades. She was a longtime
member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon, Elder, Prime Timer, and Chorister
before converting to join Queen of All Saints. Norma was also a lifetime member of the Order of the
Eastern Star and the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR). She was an avid gardener and knitter
who loved to spend time sharing her knowledge of both. Norma was a devoted daughter, mother, sister,
aunt, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Monday, December 20, 2021, from 9:00 am until
the time of service at 11:00 am at Queen of All Saints Church, 1725 E. Barker Avenue, Michigan
City, IN 46360, with Father Joel Phelps officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery
in Michigan City.

IN, 46360.
