Mr. Howard E. Whiting

September 11, 1934 - March 8, 2023

Howard E. Whiting, age 88, of LaPorte, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2023. He was born on September 11, 1934 in Knox, IN to Earl Rollin and Mary (nee: Ruschua) Whiting who preceded him in death.

Howard is survived by his children: Pamela Subin, Timothy (Denise) Whiting, and Dennis (Linda) Whiting; stepdaughters: Jill (Christopher) Saenz, Jodi (Donny) Nielson, and Joy (Joseph) Meece; grandchildren: Sarah, Suzanne, Joshua, Alan, Taylor, Xavier, Gage, Dylan, Lilly, Michael, Jeremy, Zachary, Keifen, Scott, Anna Joy, Emily, Sean, Michael, Tyler, Joseph Jr., and Daniel; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings: Eleanor (Dan) Roseka, Betty Larva, Pat Zobrist, and Carol (Mel) Mahler.

He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Sandra; son, Howard Whiting Jr., granddaughter, Jessica Whiting; siblings, Ray and Vern Whiting, and Darlene (Dick) Ogle.

Howard was a United States Army Veteran and a lifelong member of St. Luke Lutheran United Lutheran Church where he served as usher and custodian for many years. He retired with over 40 year of service with Aramark.  Howard enjoyed being outdoors. He particularly loved to garden and feed and watch the birds. He was an avid WWE fan but also loved to watch his westerns. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandkids. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Friends are invited to visit with Howard’s family on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St, Michigan City, IN. Additional visitation will take place on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 10:00 am until time of the funeral service at 11:30 am at St. Luke United Lutheran Church, 2000 E. Coolspring Ave, Michigan City, IN 46360, with Rev. Ruth A. Popkin officiating. Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Howard’s name to the American Cancer Society or Life Care Center of Michigan City.
